What we do at Muttsmakeovers

We provide a high quality, caring and professional dog grooming service in Harlow.

A typical groom

Although we will provide customised services and treatments for your dog, the basic approach that we take for washing and cutting is shown below.

We hope this gives you a good idea of what we do.  We never rush through this process. Our intention is to make it as stress-free for your dog as possible:

  1.  We give your dog a basic 6 point health check-up and look for any hidden issues that may be affecting your dog's health now or possibly in the future,
  2. We gently brush, detangle and comb your dog's hair,
  3. The body hair is clipped, groin, nails and feet trimmed and ears cleaned,
  4. A gentle bath with chemical-free shampoo (we rinse and condition the fur at least once and usually twice more),
  5. We gently dry your dog with high quality dryers and blasters,
  6. A final clip to get a high quality finish,
  7. A scissor cut to style your dog to the breed standard,
  8. An optional spay of scent.

Muttsmakeovers will no longer offer anal gland expression. If your dog is scooting or seems to have an issue with his/her anal glands, please contact your regular vet.

It has been advised by The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to the Pet Industry Federation, of which Muttsmakeovers is a member, that anal gland expression requires diagnosis by a qualified vet practice.
This will not effect any other aspect of your dogs groom and is only in the interest of your dogs health and well being.

dog grooming in Harlow

Preparing your dog for the groom.

There are one or two things that you can do to make the grooming experience a little more relaxing and successful.  Some of the tips below are obvious, and most of our clients do these things anyway.

Please do the following:

  • Please take your dog to the toilet before arriving,
  • Bring your dog on a lead,
  • Let us know before-hand if your dog is 'on-heat' as we may need to re-schedule due to male dogs being present.
  • Let us know if your dog has any health problems or anything that you would like us to have a look at for you.  If they take any medicine, please let us know so that we can schedule this into their pampering.

Please avoid the following to protect other dogs:

  • If you have an appointment booked but your dog has fleas, please treat your dog with a flea medication and re-arrange your appointment. We do not accept dogs with fleas. If your dog is found to have fleas whilst being groomed, an additional £15 will be charged to cover the cost of using a flea treatment shampoo and for having to close to fumigate the salon before further appointments can be booked in at Muttsmakeovers. We do this to protect our customers dogs from infestation of fleas.
  • If your dog has any sickness or diarrhoea please re-arrange your appointment
  • Don't forget to tell us if your dog can be aggressive in any way.
